12 AGAIN, A Young Reader Novel by Sue Corbette -- Plot set in Farmingdale, NY 11735

The book is set in Farmingdale, Long Island, and involves the mysterious disappearance of a Newsday reporter who must be rescued by her 12-year-old son. It's a fantasy with roots in Irish folklore.

Sue Corbett, the author, is the children’s book reviewer for the Miami Herald. Her column appears in newspapers throughout the country.

My name is Sue Corbett and I am the author of a new novel for young readers, titled 12 Again.

For years I have been the children's book reviewer for the Miami Herald. When I decided to write my own book, naturally, I went to the place the child in me knew best: Farmingdale. I grew up in Massapequa Park and went to Parkway Oaks Elementary, Mill Lane Junior High (now Saltzman East Memorial Elementary) and Farmingdale High.

12 Again is about a mother who thinks her children don't appreciate how good they have it. She wishes she had as much free time as they do -- and she gets her wish! She quickly realizes she's made a huge mistake, as she must enroll in school ("Saltzman Middle"), hide her identity and secretly enlist the help of her seventh-grade son, Patrick, in reversing the wish. I think Farmingdale kids will revel in the idea of magic in their own neighborhood -- the library, the bike path and "Saltzman Middle" all figure prominently in the plot.

12 Again has received glowing reviews -- Publishers Weekly called it a
"heartwarming read," and School Library Journal called it a "riveting first novel."
