America Weeps

So many Farmingdale families were directly affected by the September 11 Tragedy... our hearts and prayers remain with them.  We have created this Memorial Page to give the Farmingdale Community yet another venue to express sorrow, mourn our immensely disastrous loss, and also keep alive the memories of all those who have perished. You may send us pictures of loved ones to be added to your tribute. We shall continue to pray for healing and strength to encourage one another in hope and faith.

God Bless America!!

Gather here Brothers gather here today, to pay a tribute and say a prayer. For those who served and those who loved. We give laden heart to those above, who left their mark upon our soul. We pay honor to those who lead the way. We hope for courage to do the same some day. The path of service to man kind, has left a trail not hard to find. Unselfish valor at unselfish times is what makes them hero’s. Some were sailors, but not one lost at sea, as we remember on bended knee. Those who fought on land as well, there will still felt with in us all. The Air force flew high above, we remember them with our love. Firefighters and police who fell on 911 we give you thanks and remember too. For old glory, red, white, and blue is made up of people just like you. With somber remembrance and yet joyous day, we will remember them on this memorial day. Poem By Rodney VanBenschoten

NO ACT OF TERRORISM OR HATE CAN BREAK THE TIES THAT OUR NATION AND OUR COMMUNITY HAS BUILT. DEDICATED TO ALL NYC POLICE OFFICERS, FIREMEN, FIREWOMEN AND EMERGENCY SERVICE MEN AND WOMAN AND TO ALL THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES THAT DAY A Time to Reflect As the 9/11 anniversary whispers by in our thoughts and prayers, constantly on my mind are all those innocent faces that are gone forever, now without fear. The fear that must have empowered them for such an untimely death, Oh, God I hope you were holding them to give them strength, as they took their last breath. I know I could not bear the thought if that was a loved one of mine, not being able to comfort them or being able to ease their pain, their bodies they could not find. Their souls drifted far above in the hands of God's angels to lead them on, but their families are left behind with just the memories as their lives are shattered and gone. Their daily routine of every day seemed to end without a trace, love ones trying to remember and having difficulty remembering their face. My heart is so heavy for those who gave their lives unselfishly without a thought, The firemen and policemen who died with such bravery, which comes from the heart and cannot be taught. These men and woman who chose these low paying occupations, definitely not for money or greed, But for the love and compassion for people, they're truly a rare breed. However, who cares for the families who have been left behind, never being able to eliminate those tragic thoughts and memories that plague their minds. As I sit here praying and reflecting on all that happened that tragic day, the vengeance that overwhelms me, over and over again, someone must pay. But as my thoughts of God enter my heart, suddenly I feel nothing but sadness and overpowering confusion, Because there will never be a winner, no peace of mind, a safe life as we knew it is now a dream, just an illusion.

After September 11, America showed it true colors and love for country by flying the flag. Everyone put flags up, at their place of business, in their homes and on their cars. Although time has passed since September 11, we cannot forget to fly our flag. I'm seeing less and less flags and I hope that everyone sees the flag, not just as a seasonal item, but as a part of our everyday life.

Osama Bid Laden questioned our freedom, patriotism and love for this country on September 11, 2001. Lets answer him by continuing to fly the flag! God Bless America and God Bless us all!

In memory of Lt. Christopher Sullivan of the FDNY who lost his life in his heroic efforts on September 11,2001. Chris grew up in Farmingdale and he and his wife, Dolores Neufeld Sullivan chose to raise their two boys, Sean and Brian in the same town that gave them their roots and values. Our heartfelt support and love go out to his family and may his memory live forever in our hearts.

I "met" Erwin L. Erker through this website -- he was a member of our Forum, and on a couple of occasions we exchanged emails about issues concerning our community. Once, at a meeting, Mr. Erker got up to speak, and that was when I was able to associate a face with the name I had come to know, but I never had a chance to walk up to him and introduce myself... Although I never actually spoke to Mr. Erker in person, it was always apparent to me that he was a man of integrity who cared deeply about our community, and I always held him in high regard.  I was shocked and very saddened to run across his name while viewing a list of WTC victims.  Ever since then, Mr. Erker has been on my mind and in my prayers...
My sincere condolences go to his wife, family and friends. Our community lost a great member!
May Erwin Erker rest in peace.

My name is John Salerno I'm a 2nd Asst. Chief at the Farmingdale Fire Department. We were called to the Towers on the 11th and like everyone else I was shocked at the Destruction. There is a Poem that's called the Firemen's Prayer that every firefighter has in their home. That night I wrote a poem for the the Fallen Hero and I would love to share it with your readers. It's called Brothers Fallen. I hope you like it

Brothers Fallen

The day started off with a Kiss Goodbye,
I'm off to work
who knew I'd die
I donned my gear
and I did my best
But now it's time, to lay me to rest
So to all that knew me
and to the Lives I have touched
I died doing a job that I loved so much
Though in this world I may be gone
In your hearts I'll forever live on
So the next time you glance into the sky
We are above the clouds
so remember our cry
Brothers Fallen together
will always stand proud
we are your angels in firegear
Still protecting the crowds
and the next time you go out and
it begins to rain
it's just us on our hoselines
Easing your pain.

Tears in Heaven
by Eric Clapton
You need a MIDI Plug-in to hear the music!

Would you know my name,
if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same,

if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong

And carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand,

if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand,

if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven

Time can bring you down,
time can bend your knees
Time can break you heart,

and have you begging please... begging please

Beyond the door, there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Would you know my name,

if I saw you in heaven?
Would you be the same,

if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven
